Hamra Bihar

Overview:
Hamra Bihar is a focused public policy research internship initiative, designed to generate evidence-based insights on Bihar’s real governance, developmental, and socio-cultural challenges. The initiative encourages young researchers to engage deeply with Bihar-specific policy questions across legislative functioning, public finance, welfare delivery, infrastructure, education, healthcare, and social realities. The research orientation lies at the intersection of policy analysis, field-grounded inquiry, and public interest journalism, with a clear emphasis on practical relevance for Bihar’s future.

Thematic Focus Areas:
Research under Hamra Bihar will broadly cover (but is not limited to):
1. Legislative Research
2. Budgetary and Public Finance Analysis
3. Government Scheme Evaluation
4. Rural and Urban Infrastructure
5. Education and Healthcare Systems
6. Socio-Cultural and Developmental Realities of Bihar

Eligibility:
1. Students enrolled in any Indian university or college.
2. Graduated youth aspiring to work in public policy, governance, or development sectors.
3. UPSC and State Civil Services aspirants with an interest in Bihar-centric issues.

Expected Deliverables from Hamra Bihar Interns (one or more of the following):
1. Short-form publications on The Rise: Research Articles, Explainers, Surveys, Issue Briefs, Policy Briefs, Scheme Reviews, Budget Analyses, etc.
2. Long-form publications: Special Reports, Bihar-focused monographs etc.
3. Support roles in editorial, research coordination, outreach, or allied organisational work.

Deliverables from The Rise (terms & conditions apply):
1. Digitally verifiable Certificate of Internship Completion upon successful completion.
2. Permission to use the designation “Hamra Bihar Intern” on social media during the internship.
3. Performance-based research recognition, such as Letters of Recommendation, Certificates of Research Excellence, Editorial Spotlight, and/or other incentives, based on editorially-determined six-fold criteria – original analysis, strong use of evidence/data, policy relevance, clarity, sustained engagement throughout the internship duration, and Bihar-specificity of the outcome.
4. Structured weekly mentorship calls, supplemented by need-based guidance, to build policy research capacity.
5. Digital publication and dissemination of selected works through The Rise platforms and social media channels.
6. Expert sessions and networking opportunities.

Stipend: No stipend. But, honorariums are possible subject to sponsor availability for Hamra Bihar.

Application Window: Applications are open throughout the year.
